Welcome

Drawn to Fire is an ongoing photography project by artist photographer Kenneth James Martin. Each work is a unique record of performance around a campfire in a remote location; exploring the mark-making potential of light in the darkness the elements and the senses.

Kenneth's work is concerned with reconnecting with a primal energy, working with and trying to capture an ancient light. In each temporary location, fire - "the human signature" - is celebrated amongst a greater spectrum of available, often natural light:

"Drawn to Fire is simply about being a human being creating a temporary sensory home in the outdoors centred around a campfire. My relationship with fire and the location are both the subject and the sitter within all of these photographs. I often staying awake all night when I make this work... waiting for the light to feel just right." - KJM

"Each work comes into being following an intuitive exploration of the space, working with the essence and materials of the place." - KJM

Kenneth is now using large format cameras as they capture an incredible amount of detail, being the finest image making tools available. Prints are published as high quality, Lambda C-Type signed editions which are available to view within the Art and Editions sections.
